Disclosure Document

Dear Parents & Guardians,

I am so excited to teach your child this year! While your child will have a reading and a language arts/writing class, each class will be a blend of reading and writing. In the classroom, I am striving to create a positive and motivating classroom environment where every student can thrive.

Class rules are:

  1. Follow directions quickly.
  2. Make smart choices.
  3. Do your part to keep your learning community happy.
  4. Respect others and their property

Extra Help:

If students need extra help they can come in the mornings from 8:00-8:25 am. After school, they will need to schedule a day with me to come in after school from 3:05-3:35.

Policies

Individual Reward System

Students will earn tickets for good behavior. Every month on Friday there will be a drawing and if his/her name is on the ticket I call, he/she will get a prize. Some of the prizes/rewards include: teacher coupons, free choice, free time, and a variety of prizes.

End of Term Celebration

Students will earn their ticket to our celebration by completing all homework assignments, being at school,  and having good behavior traits.

Contact Information

The best way to get in touch with me is through email louise.crook@nebo.edu.  I would be glad to schedule an appointment with you either in person, on the phone, or online.

Misc Information

Students will have access to assignments on Canvas. If a student is absent, they need to check Canvas for any posted assignments. Late work will be updated each Monday.

Behavior System

If a student is behaving in a way that is disruptive to the class, I will talk with the student privately and email the parents.

Homework

Anything that the student does not finish in class will become homework.

Curriculum

We will be engaging in effective discussion, reading fluently using fluency strategies (reading with expression, accuracy, smoothness, and at a correct speed), exploring new vocabulary, reading using comprehension skills, and writing in multiple ways.

Classroom Library

Classroom libraries play a key role in providing access to books and promoting reading achievement and motivation. Furthermore, when students posses the skills necessary to access, select, use and effectively evaluate their reading materials, their ability to become engaged members of their communities and productive citizens is enhanced.

Our classroom library is stocked with a wide variety of materials for various interests and levels. Please be advised that I have not read every book in our classroom library and know that no book is right for every student. I invite parents to work with their students to find books that are appropriate and engaging.

If you have any questions or concerns about what books your student is reading from the classroom library, please contact me.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Crook
