Dear Parents & Guardians,
We are so excited to teach your child this year! While your child will have two different classes, each class will be a blend of reading and writing. We will be sharing equal responsibilities for all English Language Arts (ELA). In the classroom we are striving to create a positive and motivating classroom environment where every student can thrive. To help with this we have created some classroom rules.
Our rules are:
- Follow directions quickly.
- Make smart choices.
- Do your part to keep your learning community happy.
Individual Reward System
We have a Super 5/ Class Bingo chart. When your student does exceptionally well on a test/quiz or goes above and beyond in any way, he/she will get to put his/her name on one square on our chart. Every other Friday there will be a drawing and if his/her name is on the square I call, he/she will get a prize. Some of the prizes/rewards include: teacher coupons, free choice, free time, and a variety of prizes.
End of Term Celebration
Students will earn their ticket to our celebration by completing all homework assignments, being at school, and having good behavior traits.
How to Contact Us
Students will have access to assignments on Canvas. Late work will be updated each Wednesday.
This plan will help students achieve our classroom goals and help students strive to be the best they can be. We look forward to teaching your student and cannot wait to see what they will bring to our classroom environment.
Group Reward System
When a table/group works well together, and is the first to get started, help each other, etc. They will get a point and earn a variety of rewards.
Poor Behavior System
While rewards and celebrations are individual or in groups, students who make poor choices will always be handled individually and as privately as possible. We firmly believe mistakes are opportunities to improve, we will turn them into learning experiences. If a student is behaving in a way that is disruptive to the class, We have a behavior plan put in place. We will give the student a clipboard with a behavior warning plan on it, he/she will put his/her name and state the poor behavior. If he/she continues to misbehave he/she will go to the next square on the chart. We will explain this chart to our class so all students are aware. Parents may request a copy anytime.
Anything that the student does not finish in class will become homework.
We will be engaging in effective discussion, reading fluently using fluency strategies (reading with expression, accuracy, smoothness, and at a correct speed), exploring new vocabulary, reading using comprehension skills, and writing in multiple ways including conducting research using resources, peers, and adults.
